Our Story

We were silenced repeatedly.

South Dakota is an amazing and beautiful state. We wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. But it could use a little work…

Our Mission: South Dakota Opinions

Restoring the Public Voice in Local Governance.

South Dakota Opinions was created to bridge the gap between the people and the powerful. In our state’s smallest towns and most remote counties, “closed-loop” systems of authority often leave everyday residents with no seat at the table and no ear in the media.

When local boards ignore the law, when county officials look the other way, and when traditional news outlets remain silent, the citizens are left with no recourse. We are here to change that.

Our Purpose is Simple:

  • A Platform for the Silenced: We provide a space for whistleblowers, taxpayers, and residents to share their stories of government overreach and non-compliance without the “gatekeeping” of traditional media.
  • Documentation over Dismissal: We replace “he-said-she-said” with facts, public records, and the South Dakota Codified Law (SDCL).
  • Accountability for the “Anchor” Officials: We hold a mirror to the offices—Auditors, State’s Attorneys, and Trustees—that have told residents to “just hire a lawyer” instead of upholding their sworn oaths of office.
  • Opinion with Substance: We believe that every South Dakotan has a right to an opinion, especially when those opinions are rooted in the struggle for transparency and property rights.

South Dakota Opinions is more than a website; it is a public archive and a community forum. Whether it’s an unauthorized “special maintenance fee,” an illegal board ouster, or a simple story of small-town red tape, your voice has a home here.

Because when the system closes its doors, the people must open their own.
